Spread the knowledge

Welcome to Videum, a video portal to access health and wellness video content in any language.
Online videos are one of the main drivers of the digital revolution. They have made and broken superstars. They have installed presidents and overturned governments.
In fact, since web videos appeared on the scene, the consumption behavior around new media has changed the world forever.

Spreading healthcare knowledge

Each person on earth, whether from a remote village in Africa, the center of a booming city like Shanghai, and everyone in between, has an innate desire to make a difference during their lifetime by in someway helping others. Most people do not have the time, knowledge or resources to do this, as they are overwhelmed in their daily lives by basic survival, providing food, clothing, shelter, schooling and the daily necessities of life.

For the first time in history, with the global penetration of the internet, plus the nearly free and close to universal access to a computer or smart phone, enables anyone, in any country, with minimal effort and cost, to view videos which can inspire, educate, train, move to tears, and inform people who are passionate about the subject of the video.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words is a video worth?

Today, unfortunately, nearly all the important health care related videos are in English and a few other western languages, making them inaccessible to most of the world, especially the developing world. As the means to create important video content is exponentially expanding to every village of the world, and important discoveries and insights are occurring everywhere, there is now, for the first time, the ability to spread this important information globally.

If you are inspired by a video about health that you think is important, take a few minutes and enable your fellow country men to also experience the power and insights that you had from seeing that video. Videum makes it easy, quick and fun to make any video, in any of the world's languages, available in any other language – ultimately viewable on any video enabled device or platform including tablets and mobile.

You will receive credit and recognition in your local community for helping, and begin to play an important role in spreading relevant healthcare information about a condition or disease that is important to you, to others with similar concerns.

Why Video?

Video is one of the most desired content types on the web. Over 4 billion videos are watched every day on the web. Health-related videos are the 6th most frequently watched category of videos on the web.

But while the demand for healthcare-related video is high, the costs to create quality video content remain prohibitive. In addition, much of the key content is not available in multiple languages, which represents a significant barrier to healthcare professionals and consumers alike.

This is especially true in emerging markets, where the need is highest.

Thanks to this all-new usage of video, like never before, physicians in countries all over the world will be able to search, find, and consume valuable content such as new procedures and techniques, treatments and discoveries, thought-leading speeches and new ideas. Similarly, patients will now be able to share their own discoveries and experiences, lending and seeking support from a global network of patients like themselves, by leveraging video as the easiest and most immediate content type finally free from language barriers.

Videum is the extreme optimization of the entire process offering access to high quality healthcare videos and the ability for any video to be subtitled and translated in any language by users willing to take on this effort in order to spread useful health content.

The video has no subtitles?

Transcribe it!

In order to enable a video to be translated/subtitled into another language, the first step is to create a time coded transcript, called a caption, in its source language (the language in which the video is created and the audio is in). It's best if this is done by a native speaker.

The initial time coded caption is the first step in the process. The world will not be able to enjoy this video in multiple languages unless it is time coded in its source language.

Follow the instructions on the dedicated page.

The "crowd" captioning is a volunteer effort, so you will not be paid for this. However, you will get credits within the Videum Community.

The video is not available in your language?

Translate it!

Choose the healthcare video you would like to spread in your language. For videos that already have the transcription in the original language, you can create the translation in your preferred language using the easy-to-use interface.

Once your translation is complete, set the status "Mark this translation complete", and it will be published online with your user name. You can also translate by using the Google Translate, for an immediate machine generated translation.

Translation activities are conducted with transparency to ensure quality of Videum service to users. Each translation is marked with a status. This states if it is a "crowd" sourced non-verified, versus professionally verified.

According to your profile set in the registration form, you will be able to revise translations in your preferred languages and those will be marked with the correct status.

While translating, we recommend that you complete the entire video. Also it's important to capture the tone and the style of the context, thus making the meaning clearer

The "crowd" translation is a volunteer effort, so you will not be paid for this. However, you will get credits within the Videum Community.
