Online Video for Healthcare: Meet the "Long Language Train"
I thought I'd get your attention with that title, and it worked if you're reading this guest post.
I am the founder of THE International Healthcare Social Media conference, Doctors 2.0 & You, taking place on June 6-7, 2013, in Paris.
The theme of the conference this year is the concrete use of healthcare social media, mobile apps, serious games, and big data. We are no longer talking about what will happen but what is happening. All speakers will present examples and learnings, guaranteed to be interactive with parallel sessions taking place all day. Speakers represent all healthcare's stakeholders from Europe, North America, Asia, and even Australia. In the past two years, we have introduced 100 different speakers to the world of Doctors 2.0 & You, and this year there will be even more new faces.
We are partners of Videum Health, and we are very interested in video. Video is an integral part of the annual Doctors 2.0 & You event.
We present best practices in video for healthcare at our sessions. We make available all of the plenary sessions and record video interviews and testimonials.
And this year, we expect more and more participants to communicate via video.
The Long Language Train
By "Long Language Train," we are referring to the many languages that patients and professionals speak around the world.
So many quality videos would be of interest to people around the world, and yet they don't get picked up, because watching video in an unknown language is almost impossible.
And yet there is a tremendous interest in video about healthcare.
2/3 of physicians use online video to keep up to date with clinical information
1 in 3 internet consumers watch health video, and almost all (93%) take action as a result of watching a video.
The top ten internet languages are :
1, English
2. Chinese
3. Spanish

But, as you see from the stats, there is a Long Language Train. "All the rest" would actually be the 3rd biggest language.
Video and Doctors 2.0 & You
So, thanks to the Videum channel on which Doctors 2.0 & You all of our videos can be visualized in other languages on demand, either through automatic translation or through the work of volunteers... This is important for us at Doctors 2.0 & You, because we have people from nearly 30 countries participating, from around the world. Video "On Crohn’s Disease and Peer-to-Peer Healthcare" for example has been translated in 7 languages...
As we make our plans for video in 2013, we'll be thinking global and local for sure.
